What Is Body Sugaring?

Looking for an escape from the world of waxing? Would you rather tear your hair out than go through another itchy shave? If that sounds like you, then body sugaring is the way to go.

But if you’ve never experienced this wonderful technique, it’s only natural to wonder what body sugaring is – and we’ve got all the answers you need right here!

How Does Body Sugaring Work?

Let’s start with a body sugaring definition. This process is actually an ancient technique, started thousands of years ago and used to remove unwanted body hair in the most comfortable and gentle way possible. It uses a pliable and warm (not hot!) paste to trap hair and extract it from the follicle.

Unlike waxing, this paste is applied against the hair and then removed with it, at the angle of growth. This means much less hair breakage, more effective results, and even a longer or permanent reduction in hair growth. Done every 3-4 weeks, you’ll get all the smoothness of wax without the burned skin, redness, stickiness, or difficult hair situations.

What is Body Sugaring Paste?

So, now you might be wondering why it is called body sugaring. The name comes from the paste we used – a combination of sugar, lemon juice, and water, aka a completely natural and even edible combination. There are no added chemicals, fragrances, or colours, and it’s even hypoallergenic, making it a great choice for people with sensitive skin. This paste is just sticky enough for hair removal, but not so much as to leave unwelcome residue where it has no business being.

Is body sugaring wax?

No! The body sugaring paste is less harsh and sticky and more natural and malleable than wax. It can be applied with a gloved hand – no sticks or strips are needed. It cleans up with water, has less risk of burning your skin (because it doesn’t need to be as hot), and the ingredients list isn’t filled with unpronounceable chemicals. There’s just three: the lemon juice, sugar, and water. It’s true!

Who Can Do Body Sugaring?

Maybe you’ve never heard of a body sugaring boutique, and you think it’s just a fancy name for a regular salon. After all, there are a lot of over-the-counter body sugaring boxes that you can use at home, right?

That’s true, but – as with any skill – if you don’t know what you’re doing, the results may be a little less than stellar. You don’t need a professional for body sugaring any more than you need a professional painter to change the colour of your kitchen – but it certainly goes a long way in getting the look you want at the end, while avoiding common errors and keeping you comfortable.

Do I need a body sugaring esthetician?

If you want the best possible outcome, you should seek out someone who is highly trained and experienced in sugaring. From specific health guidelines to protect your skin to work that is high-quality, effective, and consistent, a proper body sugaring esthetician is your best bet – because we know for a fact that you’ll never leave our boutique with damaged or sticky skin.
